Paloma is a serious and eloquent 11-year-old who has determined to commit suicide on her 12th birthday. Fascinated by art and philosophy, she examines and documents her own life and immediate group, making trenchant and frequently amusing insights about the world. However, as her death date approaches, Paloma encounters some kindred spirits in the grouchy custodian of her building and an intriguing, elegant neighbor, both of whom urge Paloma to reconsider her fairly dismal outlook on life.
