An FBI team investigates a strange triple homicide in which a congressman's daughter dies in a small town in Mississippi, with the team's bright but jaded head agent facing demons both past and present, while his beautiful, tough-as-nails partner tries to keep him and the investigation together.. They uncover a poor and corrupt sheriff's department, a shady and dreaded figure who seems to control the town from his mansion on the outskirts, and a local victim with an odd link to several notable locals.
