Dre Parker,12, could have been the most popular boy in Detroit, but his mother's latest business move has placed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying, but cultural differences make such a bond difficult. Worse, Dre's emotions turn him against the class bully, Cheng. With no friends in a strange place, Dre has no choice but to turn to Mr. Han, the maintenance man who is also a kung fu teacher. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is about maturity and serenity rather than punches and parries, Dre knows that battling the bullies will be the fight of his life.
