Set against the attractive background of Britain's barking '20s, The Laureate tells the tale of young British War Poet Robert Graves, who is married with 4 youngsters when he satisfies and becomes romantically involved with Laura Riding, a writer from America. Resisting the conventions of polite society, Riding moves in with Graves and his better half living as a menage a tois. Then with the arrival of strappingly good-looking Irish poet Geoffrey Phibbs, the plan comes to be a menage a quatre. Yet quickly tensions as well as rivalries become so laden that Graves is a suspect for attempted murder.
