The Man in the Sky
John Mitchell's attempts to improve his family's circumstances fail, and he blames himself. At Conway Aero-Manufacturing Company in Wolverhampton, Mitchell will test the company's new rocket-propulsion transport plane, transporting Ministry official Crabtree and buyer's representative Ashmore. Mitchell's supervisor, Reg Conway, tells him that if Ashmore doesn't approve the jet, the company would go out of business and Mitchell will lose his job because the plane isn't even insured. The passengers and crew escape out when an engine catches fire in flight, but Mitchell refuses to ditch the plane in the Irish Sea.
