The Nun

Suffering was the theme of Suzanne Simonin's life documented in letters. She is taken away from her family and placed in a convent as a teen. Her parents are unable to afford the dowry needed for a marriage of her position, so they have decided that she must become a nun instead. Suzanne's desire for independence remains unabated, despite the kindness and compassion of Mother Superior. After the death of the Mother Superior, Suzanne is subjected to abuse from the new Abbess and the other Sisters, including humiliation and harassment.
