Following the reading of the diary of an elderly Jewish man who committed suicide, freelance writer Peter Miller launches an investigation into the purported sighting of a former SS-Captain who served as the commanding officer of a concentration camp during WWII. The formidable former SS organization ODESSA as well as the Israeli secret service are among the organizations that Miller becomes affiliated with later in his life. The SS-Captain, ODESSA, and Miller's own family are all linked together, as Miller discovers when he investigates further.
