Twelve years ago, a shoulder injury ruined Jim Morris' career as a pitcher. He never advanced beyond the lower levels. Jim, a Texas high school chemistry teacher and baseball coach who is now married and has children, makes a bargain with his team: if they win the district championship, Jim will try out for a major-league team. The bet proves to be sufficient motivation for the squad, as they go from worst to first, qualifying for state for the first time in school history. Jim is nearly laughed off the tryout field until he clocks consecutive 98 mph fastballs, which earn him a minor league contract with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Jim has a long way to go before he reaches The Show, but now that his big-league dreams have been rekindled, everything is possible.
