During World War II, this real narrative details the exploits of a top-secret British military mission to destroy German radio ships in a neutral harbor. British Intelligence operatives Col. Lewis Pugh (Gregory Peck) and Capt. Gavin Stewart are in charge of the audacious plot (Roger Moore). Since the ships are in neutral territory, the British military command must disavow any knowledge of the plan should it fail. Pugh and Stewart solicit the assistance of retired officer Colonel Bill Grice (David Niven) and several of his former soldiers. On the guise of a fishing expedition, four evidently inebriated old men in civilian attire must board and destroy three Nazi ships whose radio communications have led to the sinking of ally ships by Nazi submarines. While Stewart organizes a diversion ashore, Pugh and Grice conduct the risky raid and destroy the Nazi ships.
