Mack Phillips falls into a profound depression after a terrible event that occurs in his family, which causes him to rethink the foundations of his most fundamental beliefs. He is going through a difficult time with his religion when he gets a strange letter directing him to a deserted cabin deep in the Oregon forest. In spite of his reservations, Mack decides to go to the hut, where he meets a mysterious group of outsiders lead by a woman whose name is Papa.
