Helen, a lovely young mute, works as a maid for the elderly and ailing Mrs. Warren in 1916. Mrs. Warren's two adult sons, Albert (a professor) and the womanizing, obnoxious Steven, also live in the Warren mansion. When a string of murders involving 'women with afflictions' hits the neighborhood, Mrs. Warren becomes concerned for Helen's safety. Dr. Parry, her doctor, begs her to remove Helen for her own safety. When another murder occurs inside the Warren mansion, Helen is clearly in jeopardy.
