The Spirit of the Beehive

In the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War, Ana, a sensitive seven-year-old girl in a remote Spanish hamlet, is shocked when a traveling projectionist shows the 1931 film "Frankenstein" to the community. The youngster is deeply horrified by the events in which the monster murders the young girl and is thereafter murdered by the townsfolk. She asks her sister about the complexities of life and death, and she believes her elder sibling when she says that the monster is still alive and occupying a nearby barn as a spirit. When a Loyalist soldier, a fugitive from Franco's triumphant army, takes refuge in the barn, Ana transcends reality and enters her own fantasy realm.
