Toxic Avenger (1984) by Lloyd Kaufman is the inspiration for this cult classic comedy. Tromaville's residents are desperate for a hero, and the musical portrays their narrative. An earth scientist with a deep desire to clear up the state's big toxic waste problem is a nerdy Melvin Ferd III. To foil this heroic effort, a corrupt Mayor and her government minions pledge to do all in their power. Attacked by the Poisonous Avenger, Melvin is dumped into a vat of toxic waste, instantly becoming New Jersey's first superhero! When it comes to strength and heart, Toxie has it in abundance. He wants to free New Jersey from pollution, end global warming, and win the love of the town's most beautiful (and blind) librarian!
