Frank Galvin is a down-and-out lawyer who has resorted to drinking and ambulance chasing. Mickey Morrissey, a former associate, reminds him of his obligations in a medical malpractice suit that he served to Galvin on a silver platter: all parties willing to settle out of court. Blundering his way through the preliminary hearings, he suddenly realizes that the case should go to court after all; to punish the guilty, obtain a fair settlement for his clients, and restore his reputation as a lawyer.
