The Weapon, the Hour, the Motive

Don Giorgio is linked with two women: Orchidea and Giulia. When he repents and swears to return to the Church, he is viciously beaten to death. Giulia's throat is cut not long afterwards. Inspector Boito falls in love with Orchidea, who is also the prime suspect, and is prepared to marry her. An inquisitive child named Ferruccio, who is being held captive and drugged, appears to be the key to solving the case. Will anyone believe his story that he witnessed one of the murders?
