The Wonderful Wizard of Oz: The True Story

Written in 1900 by L Frank Baum, a Chicago businessman, journalist and lifelong admirer of all things new and technology. His life spanned an era of incredible American invention and achievement, many of which fueled his enormous storytelling imagination. His goal was to create the first authentic American fairytale, and it continues to amaze, inspire, and engage millions of people worldwide. This documentary investigates how The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has come to symbolise the American Dream, including previously unseen video from the Baum family archives, still images and early Oz film clips, as well as interviews with family members, literary experts, and American historians.
