Throne of Blood
The samurai warriors Washizu and Miki are prevented from reaching their lord's castle by a spirit that foretells their destinies. When the first portion of the spirit's prophecy comes true, Washizu's conniving wife, Asaji, urges him to hasten the rest of the prophecy by murdering his lord and usurping his position. The adaptation of William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" to feudal Japan by director Akira Kurosawa is one of his most admired works.
