When Leonard Vole is arrested for the shocking murder of a wealthy middle-aged widow, the famous Sir Wilfrid Robarts agrees to stand up for him in court. Sir Wilfrid is supposed to stick to civil cases while he heals from a heart attack that almost killed him. However, the appeal of the criminal courts is too much for him, especially since the case is so hard.
