In 1943, Carson Shaw goes to Chicago to try out for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. There, she meets other women who want to play professional baseball, too, and makes connections that help her see more of the world. Max Chapman, who lives in Rockford, also shows up to try out, but he is turned away. With the help of her best friend Clance, she must find a new way to get to where she wants to be.
