Alvin and the Chipmunks is an American animated TV show about The Chipmunks. It was made by Bagdasarian Productions and Ruby-Spears Enterprises from 1983 to 1987, and by DIC Entertainment from 1988 to 1990. It ran on NBC from 1983 to 1990 and is the sequel to The Alvin Show, which ran from 1961 to 1962. The Chipettes, three female chipmunks with their own human caretaker, Miss Beatrice Miller, were introduced on the show. In 1988, the show was taken over by DiC Enterprises, and the name was changed to just "The Chipmunks." In 1987, during the fifth season of the show, The Samuel Goldwyn Company put out The Chipmunk Adventure, the first animated feature film about the Chipmunks. The Chipmunks and Chipettes competed in a contest that took them all over the world. The movie was directed by Janice Karman. The Chipmunks Go to the Movies was the name of the show's eighth and final season. Each episode was a spoof of a Hollywood movie, like Back to the Future or King Kong. There were also a number of TV specials with the characters. The special Rockin' Through the Decades was made in the year 1990. In the same year, the Chipmunks worked with other well-known cartoon characters on the special Cartoon All-Stars to the Rescue, which was meant to stop people from using drugs.
