Athena: Goddess of War is a 2010 South Korean espionage television drama series that aired on SBS and is a spin-off of Iris from 2009. The two series are among the most expensive Korean dramas ever produced, with a combined budget of 20 billion. The series starring Jung Woo-sung, Cha Seung-won, Soo Ae, and Lee Ji-ah debuted in December 2010 after having been filmed in a variety of foreign countries, including Italy, New Zealand, Japan, and the United States. The series takes place in the same universe as its predecessor, allowing chosen characters from Iris to reprise their roles throughout the narrative.
