Bread

Bread is a British sitcom that ran on BBC1 from May 1, 1986, to November 3, 1991. It was written by Carla Lane and made by the BBC. The show was about the large, devoutly Catholic Boswell family from Liverpool's Dingle neighborhood. Led by its matriarch Nellie, the family went through many ups and downs as they tried to get by in Thatcher's Britain with no clear way to support themselves. Elswick Street is the street that is shown at the beginning of each show. In Lane's earlier show, The Liver Birds, there was a family named Boswell. Lane has said in interviews that the two families are probably related. Freddie, Nellie's lazy and now ex-husband, left her for another woman named "Lilo Lill." Her five kids, Joey, Jack, Adrian, Aveline, and Billy, all stayed in the family home on Kelsall Street and gave money to the family's main fund, mostly by cheating on their benefits and selling stolen goods.
