The Animal Planet network's Call of the Wildman is an American reality television show. The series is presently on its third season. The show recounts the exploits of Ernie Brown, Jr., a Kentucky woodsman known as "The Turtleman." Brown runs a nuisance animal removal service with the help of his friend Neal James and his dog Lolly, catching the animals without injuring them and releasing them back into the wild. The show is mostly shot near Brown's house in Lebanon, Kentucky. Brown started catching snapping turtles from ponds near his house when he was seven years old. After an episode of Kentucky Educational Television's Kentucky Afield series featuring his bare-handed turtle-catching techniques was released on YouTube and went viral, he caught the attention of Animal Planet producers. Network executives chose to produce a 12-episode season of the series with the working title The Turtleman of Wild Kentucky after personally meeting Brown and doing some initial filming. The title was quickly altered to Call of the Wildman, a nod to Brown's trademark cry that appears throughout the series. In the fourth quarter of2011, the series was Animal Planet's most watched show, and it was renewed for a second, 16-episode season, which premiered in June 2012. Call of the Wildman: More Live Action, a re-release of the series with new features and trivia material, was released by Animal Planet in October 2012.
