The Japanese works Candy Candy are a novel, a manga, and an anime series. Candice "Candy" White Ardlay, the story's main protagonist, is a young woman with freckles, wide emerald green eyes, long, curly hair that is worn in pigtails with bows, and a blonde complexion. In April 1975, the well-known Japanese author Kyoko Mizuki published the first ever written account of the character Candy Candy in one of her novels. Candy Candy caught the attention of the Japanese publication Nakayoshi after Mizuki collaborated with the manga artist Yumiko Igarashi on the project. It was published as a manga series in the magazine for a total of four years, during which time it was honored with the very first Kodansha Manga Award for shjo in the year 1977. Toei Animation has turned the narrative into an anime series that they are producing. There are also a few Candy Candy movies that were never shown anywhere but Japan when they were originally produced.
