Children of the Whales

Chakuro, who is just 14 years old, is the archivist of the Mud Whale, which is a near-utopian island that floats over an unending sea of sand. The majority of people that live in the Mud Whale have been given the gift and the curse of being able to wield saimia, which are unique powers but also ensure that they will die young. Chakuro and his companions have found themselves on various islands, but none of them have ever seen, seen, or even heard of a human being who was not from their home. One day, Chakuro travels to an island that is comparable in size to the Mud Whale, where he winds up meeting a girl who will alter the course of his life.
