Claymore is a dark fantasy manga series written and drawn by Norihiro Yagi. The series started in the May 2001 issue of Monthly Shnen Jump, which is no longer being published. When the magazine was shut down in June 2007, the series was temporarily moved to Weekly Shnen Jump, where it was still published every month. When Jump Square was released in November 2007, the series was moved to it. Shueisha has put out 23 tankbon volumes with the individual chapters as of December 2012. Madhouse turned the first eleven volumes of the series into a 26-episode anime series. The series, which was directed by Hiroyuki Tanaka and first aired in Japan on NTV on April 3, 2007, ran until September 25, 2007. A CD soundtrack for the anime series came out on July 25, 2007, and a CD of character songs with the anime voice actresses was released on September 27, 2007. Viz Media has a license to make an English-language version of the Claymore manga. It released the first volume of the series on April 4, 2006, and as of November 6, 2012, it has released 21 volumes. Funimation Entertainment has the rights to release the anime version in North America. They released the first DVD for the series in the fall of 2008 and the whole series on Blu-ray in the spring of 2010. Madman Entertainment has licensed the anime for release in Australia and New Zealand, and Manga Entertainment has sub-licensed the anime for release in the UK.
