Degrassi Junior High is a teen drama series produced by CBC Television in Canada from 1987 to 1989 as part of the Degrassi franchise. The show centered on the lives of a group of students at the titular fictitious high school. Many episodes dealt with difficult topics such as drug use, child abuse, adolescent pregnancy, homosexuality, homophobia, racism, and divorce, and the series was praised for its sensitive and realistic depiction of adolescent life's challenges. The cast was mostly made up of non-professional actors, which added to the show's sense of realism. Stacie Mistysyn, Neil Hope, Anais Granofsky, Sarah Charlesworth, and others reprised their roles from The Kids of Degrassi Street a few years earlier. Degrassi Junior High, however, cannot be considered a direct spinoff because their character names and family situations have been changed. Stephen Stohn, who later became the executive producer of Degrassi: The Next Generation, was the legal counsel for all of the episodes. The series was shot in Etobicoke, Ontario, at the decommissioned Vincent Massey Public School.
