Doctor Finlay is based on A. J. Cronin's stories about the mythical hero. It's a follow-up to Dr. Finlay's Casebook. It's the 1940s after John Finlay returns from war. Early plotlines include the creation of the NHS and the modernization of Arden House, Tannochbrae, Scotland. The show stars David Rintoul as Dr. Finlay, Ian Bannen as his semi-retired partner Dr. Cameron, and Annette Crosbie as their maid Janet. Dr. Neil, Finlay's assistant, is played by Jason Flemyng, and Dr. Napier by Jessica Turner. Scottish Television recorded the series in Auchtermuchty, Fife. It was on PBS' Masterpiece Theatre.
