Gene Roddenberry's widow, Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, oversaw the production of the Canadian science fiction television series Earth: Final Conflict, which is based on his story concepts. It was not videotaped or broadcast until after his passing. From October 6, 1997 until May 20, 2002, it aired for five seasons. The initial title of the show was Battleground: Earth, but the producers decided to change it because it sounded too similar to L. Ron Hubbard's novel Battlefield Earth. Majel Barrett-Roddenberry served as executive producer. She also appears in early episodes as the character Dr. Julianne Belman. Barrett was in possession of Roddenberry's plot and series concept notes; following his death, these documents served as the basis for this series.
