Empty Nest
Empty Nest is an American sitcom that aired on NBC between 1988 and 1995. Susan Harris devised the series as a continuation of The Golden Girls. Empty Nest was one of the top 10 most-watched programs of the year during its first three seasons. It was co-produced by Witt/Thomas/Harris Productions and Touchstone Television. The show concept was inspired by the British comedy series Father, Dear Father, which likewise featured a father living with his two kids and enormous dog. Unlike that series, however, the two daughters in Empty Nest are self-sufficient adults, and the protagonist is a widower. During its first four seasons, Empty Nest aired at 9:30 p.m. ET, immediately following The Golden Girls, as part of NBC's Saturday night block of programming. Two of the cast members were graduates of one of Susan Harris's earlier series, Soap; in Soap, Mulligan was Manoff's father-in-law.
