From September 19, 1964, through April 15, 1967, NBC aired the American television series Flipper, produced by Ivan Tors Films and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Television. In the fictional Coral Key Park and Marine Preserve in southern Florida, Porter Ricks and his two young sons Sandy and Bud have a bottlenose dolphin named Flipper as a pet. During its initial run, the show was nicknamed a "aquatic Lassie" and a large number of products for children was made in its honor.
