Grand Star, known in France as La Compagnie des Glaces, is a science fiction television series co-produced by Canada, France, and Belgium that premiered on Space and A-Channel in September 2007. The show is set in an apocalyptic future 100 years after a cataclysmic nuclear explosion on the Moon sends the Earth into a new Ice Age. It centers on the interactions between a small community of Earth survivors and the returning descendants of colonists who fled the planet in advance of the disaster. The series is based on Georges-Jean Arnaud's novella La Compagnie des glaces. In2007, a multiplayer strategy game based on the television series's universe was released. Players compete against one another in the game, using their trains to collect money for the control of energy sources. Transarctica, a French video game loosely based on the novel series, was also translated into English hastily.
