After the conclusion of Dynasty on September 21, 1983, Hotel, an American prime time drama series, began airing on ABC in the timeslot that it occupied until May 5, 1988. The series, which was created by Aaron Spelling and took place in the opulent and made-up St. Gregory Hotel in San Francisco, was adapted from Arthur Hailey's novel of the same name, which was published in 1965. On top of the Nob Hill district in San Francisco, in front of the Fairmont San Francisco, establishing shots of the hotel were filmed. Each episode focused on a different member of the hotel's employees and their day-to-day activities, as well as their personal and professional life.
