Instant Star is a Canadian television show that aired between September 2004 and June 2008. The series stars Alexz Johnson as the teenage winner of a music competition, Jude Harrison. The show focuses on character development while chronicling Harrison's time in the music industry. The show was produced by Stephen Stohn and Linda Schuyler of Epitome Pictures. Prior to being taken up by Viacom-owned teen network channel The N, which is now TeenNick in the United States, the program first aired on CTV in Canada. The show became the second most popular program on The N, behind Degrassi: The Next Generation, a Canadian program also produced by Schuyler and Stohn. After its first season aired in2005, Instant Star was nominated for three Gemini Awards in the category of Best Children's or Youth Fiction Program or Series. Best Series, Best Performance, and Best Direction were among the nominations. The episode You Can't Always Get What You Want earned the award for Best Direction on the series. The show was nominated for three further Gemini Awards for Best Children's or Youth Program or Series on August28, 2007. Alexz Johnson was nominated once more for Best Actress, and Graeme Campbell and Pat Williams were nominated for Best Director.
