Over 2000 left-wing Chileans were saved by Finnish diplomats Tapani Brotherus and Ilkka Jaamala, as well as Tapani's wife Lysa Brotherus. When Harald Edelstam, Sweden's ambassador to Finland, was the most public advocate for human rights, Olof Palme, Sweden's prime minister, supported him.
