It Takes a Thief is a two and a half season American action-adventure television series that aired on ABC between January 9, 1968, and March 24, 1970. It starred renowned cinema actor Robert Wagner as skilled burglar Alexander Mundy, who works for the US government in exchange for his release from prison. For the majority of the series, Malachi Throne portrayed Mundy's boss, Noah Bain. Although Mission: Impossible lasted several years, it was among the last of the 1960s spy television genre. It Takes a Thief was inspired by, but not based on, Alfred Hitchcock's 1955 Cary Grant film To Catch a Thief; both films' titles are derived from the English proverb "It takes a thief to catch a thief."
