Jersey Shore is an American reality television show that aired on MTV in the United States from December3, 2009 to December20, 2012. The show follows the lives of eight housemates who spend their summer vacation in the Jersey Shore in the United States. Season 2 saw the ensemble flee to Miami Beach to escape the bitter northeast winter, while Season 3 saw them return to the Jersey Shore. On August 4, 2011, the fourth season, which was shot in Italy, debuted. On January5,2012, the show returned to Seaside Heights for its fifth season. On March 15, 2012, the fifth season concluded. MTV announced on March19, 2012 that the show would return for a sixth season. MTV stated that the Jersey Shore would stop after the sixth season, which aired on October4, on August30, 2012. On December 20, 2012, the series came to an end. The show premiered amid a storm of controversy over the use of the words "Guido/Guidette," stereotypical portrayals of Italian-Americans, and local criticism because the cast members were not locals. MTV set ratings records with the series, making it the most watched series telecast ever. The cast of the show is also credited with introducing unique terminology and phrases into popular culture in the United States.
