Julia
For the first time, an American sitcom depicted an African American woman in a non-stereotypical position, Julia. Even while African American protagonists have appeared on television before, they were almost always servants. Diahann Carroll is the show's star, and it aired on NBC from September17,1968, through March23,1971, for a total of 86 episodes. In addition to Hanncar Productions, Inc., and 20th Century Fox Television, the show was produced by Savannah Productions, Inc. It was originally titled "Mama's Man" during pre-production. When the show was republished for cable and syndication in the late 1980s, 20th Century-Fox Television added a laugh track, making it one of the few situation comedies of the late 1960s that didn't employ one.
