The show Life of Crime is about a female cop named Denise Woods. The drama takes place over the course of 30 years, starting with the Brixton Riots of 1985 and following Denise as she moves up in the ranks of the Metropolitan Police Service. She has a hard time at first in a very male-dominated field where sexism is common and female officers have to fight to be accepted. But as dawn breaks one September morning, Denise goes with DS Ray Deans to a crime scene. There, they find the body of a teenage girl who had been beaten, bruised, and strangled. Denise is determined to find out who killed Anna because she knows the teenager who did it. Denise goes against her superiors' clear instructions and advice and follows her own lines of inquiry because Anna's murder isn't as it seems at first. As the investigation goes on, Denise's passion for the case gets her in trouble with DCI Ferguson, who is her boss.
