Lost in Space

Lost in Space is a science fiction television series that was conceived and produced by Irwin Allen, filmed by 20th Century Fox Television, and shown on CBS. Between September 15, 1965, and March 6, 1968, 83 episodes aired across three seasons of the program. The initial season of a television program was shot in black-and-white, while subsequent seasons were shot in color. Based on the television series, a Lost in Space film was made in 1998. Despite the fact that the original concept of the television series concentrated on the Robinson family, many subsequent storylines centered on Dr. Zachary Smith, who was portrayed by Jonathan Harris. Originally conceived as a thoroughly malevolent and highly capable would-be saboteur, Smith gradually transforms into a problematic, self-centered, incompetent antagonist who provides comedic relief for the program and causes the majority of its episodic conflicts and mishaps. Both Smith and the robot were absent from the unaired pilot. They were thrown off track by a meteor storm in the unaired pilot. In the first aired episode, Smith's sabotage and unintentional presence prompted the crew to deviate from their original path and encounter meteors. In the unaired version, they were traveling so slowly that they questioned whether they were on Mars, however in the first televised episode, a few seconds in hyper-drive was all it took for them to become lost, light years away from Earth.
