From January 23, 1996 through May 14, 2001, the American comedy Moesha aired on the UPN network. The sitcom stars Brandy Norwood as Moesha Mitchell, a high school student who lives in the Leimert Park district of South Central Los Angeles with her family. It was first commissioned as a pilot for the 1995-1996 season of the CBS television network, however was rejected. UPN took it up and aired it as a midseason replacement. It went on to become the greatest success for the young network and one of the network's best hits over its entire history.
