Mr. Selfridge is a fictionalized account of the life of Harry Gordon Selfridge, the flamboyant and imaginative American who established Selfridge's, the most opulent department store in London. The story follows Harry Gordon Selfridge, often known as "Mile a Minute Harry," who is on a mission to make shopping as exciting as sex. The action takes place in London in 1909, during a time when women were delighting in a new sense of freedom and modernism. Harry developed a theater of retail that exhibited every issue or trend that was fresh, thrilling, entertaining, or just odd. Harry was a pioneer, and he was reckless, and he had an almost crazy enthusiasm.
