Best buddies Luke (straight and laid-back) and Lizzy (gay and a little type-A) are like family. They remained close as children when both of their parents were divorcing, and they've been there for each other ever since. They've grown up and are still unmarried, so they've chosen to have their own family. No, not that (there are some limits they won't cross) - we're talking about the non-romantic, go-to-the-doctors-office kind of baby-making. The two then go to a bar one night to let off steam after yet another failed effort at conception. Luke meets Prudence there, a free-spirited British girl who will be returning to England in a few days. Lizzy isn't a fan - perhaps it has something to do with Prudence waltzing around their flat naked - but Luke has a thing for her, and before long, they're spending every last minute of her restricted time together. But, just as Lizzy learns she's expecting, Luke announces that he and Prudence have married. Ta-da! A new kind of family is formed.
