Outrageous Fortune is a New Zealand comedy-drama television series that aired on TV3 from 12 July 2005 until 9 November 2010. The series followed the lives of the career criminal West family after the matriarch, Cheryl, decided the family should go straight and obey the law. James Griffin and Rachel Lang devised the show, which was produced by South Pacific Pictures. Episodes, like the show, were named after Shakespeare quotes. The show ended after 6 seasons and 107 episodes, making it New Zealand's longest-running drama series. Throughout the show's first five seasons, the main cast consisted of Robyn Malcolm, Antony Starr, Siobhan Marshall, Antonia Prebble, Frank Whitten, and Kirk Torrance; Grant Bowler starred in an occasional part. The show premiered on July 12, 2005, to critical praise. For its first four years, it won several of the major categories at the New Zealand television awards, with most New Zealand reviews praising Malcolm's performance. Following the success of the show, both the United States and the United Kingdom turned it into their own shows, none of which was renewed after the first season.
