Based on the Korean folk tale Prince Hodong and the Princess of Nakrang, which tells the narrative of the failed Nakrang Kingdom. According to legend, a drum called the jamyeonggo, meaning "the drum that beats by itself," sounded an alert when attackers invaded its territory. The self-sounding drum made neighbors, notably Goguryeo, wary of attacking Nakrang. Prince Hodong of Goguryeo infiltrated Nakrang to destroy the drum. The prince fell for the Nakrang princess. For love, the princess betrayed her kingdom by removing the drum. In the end, her nation crumbled and she was slain. Prince Hodong wept, cradling her body. Ja-myung, the hidden sister of the Nakrang Kingdom's princess, plays the drum in the drama series. As the princess of Nakrang, Ra-hee is adored by her people, but Ja-myung survives a murder attempt and lives as a commoner. Prince Hodong of Goguryeo, Nakrang's opponent, must choose between love and responsibilities.
