Recess is an American animated TV show made by Walt Disney Television Animation. It was made by Paul Germain and Joe Ansolabehere. The show is about six kids in elementary school and how they get along with each other and with their teachers. In North America, the title refers to the time during the school day when kids are not in class and are outside in the schoolyard. One of the most interesting things about the show is how the kids make their own society, complete with a government and a class system, while still going to school. From 1997 to 2001, Recess was first shown on ABC, and in the United States, reruns were shown on Disney Channel. Due to the show's popularity, it was sent to many countries around the world, including the UK, where it was shown on several channels, such as Toon Disney and Disney Channel UK. Recess: School's Out, the first of two movies based on the series, was shown in theaters in 2001. It was made by Walt Disney Pictures. In the same year, a second movie called Recess Christmas: Miracle on Third Street came out on direct-to-video. Along with Recess: All Grown Down, a third movie called Recess: Taking the Fifth Grade came out in 2003. Both of them went straight to video. The characters also showed up in an episode of Lilo & Stitch: The Series, which was made by Disney.
