Two childhood friends help each other through the hardships of poverty, then reunite years later and encourage each other as they ascend the social hierarchy. Kim In Sook's life becomes a living misery after marrying into a prosperous business family. She is marginalized because her in-laws view her as a gold-seeking interloper. In Sook's cherished son is taken by her mother-in-law after her husband is killed in a helicopter crash.
