Second thoughts is a sitcom that originated in the United Kingdom and lasted from May 3, 1991 until October 14, 1994. ITV was the channel that aired it, and LWT was the production company. The next installment, titled Faith in the future, came after it. Second thoughts chronicled the lives of two middle-aged divorcees seeking to create a relationship, despite the circumstances driving it apart. These characters, Bill MacGregor and Faith Greyshott, came from quite different backgrounds. The authors of Second Thoughts, husband and wife team Jan Etherington and Gavin Petrie, drew inspiration for the show from their own real-life relationship. It was initially broadcast as a radio series on BBC Radio 4, which ran from November 1, 1988, all the way up until July 23, 1992. There were a total of 31 episodes in the radio series, which was comprised of four series and a Christmas special that was broadcast in 1992. The ITV television series was adapted from the radio plays that were originally broadcast. The fifth series, which was the only one of the series that was not based on the original radio scripts, was generally regarded as being of lower quality than the first four series. The final episode of Second Thoughts aired on October 14, 1994, but the show has since been rerun on ITV3. The first radio series is aired in its entirety rather frequently on BBC7.
