Aardman Animations is responsible for the production of the stop-motion animated children's television series Shaun the Sheep. The series was commissioned by the British Broadcasting Corporation and Westdeutscher Rundfunk, which is a component member of the ARD, which is a consortium of German public broadcasting institutions. It is a spin-off of the Wallace and Gromit franchise, and the main protagonist is Shaun from A Close Shave. It made its debut on the CBBC in the United Kingdom in March of 2007. Timmy Time, a show geared toward younger audiences, was spawned as a direct result of the success of the original series. The program has been aired in about 180 countries all around the world.
