The sitcom Sophie is a product of Canada and was broadcast on CBC from the 9th of January 2008 till the 23rd of March 2009. It stars Natalie Brown as the title character, Sophie Parker, a single mother who has never been married and works in talent representation. This program is an adaptation into English of the French-language programme Les Hauts et les bas de Sophie Paquin that airs on Télévision de Radio-Canada. Richard Blaimert and Jocelyn Deschênes, both members of the creative team that was responsible for the original series, are responsible for the creation and executive production of the show. It was the CBC's second attempt in as many years to make an English adaptation of a hit series from its French sister network, following the attempt, which was less successful, to develop an adaptation of Rumours. The acquisition of the show by ABC Family, a channel that is a member of the Disney-ABC Television Group in the United States, was made public in February of2008, when the announcement was made. The television network has committed to airing the first thirteen episodes of the show, and they also have an option to continue airing it for a second season. The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) decided to end the series on March27, 2009 as a result of its low ratings.
